Nicole Lemke is a senior policy researcher at the European tech policy think tank interface. Her research interests span the governance and political economy of AI, with a focus on AI competitiveness, market dynamics, and public investment in AI and its infrastructure, and the societal impacts of AI adoption, including how the properties of AI systems shape knowledge production, epistemic standards, and information quality.

Nicole Lemke is a senior policy researcher at interface, a European technology policy think tank based in Berlin, Brussels, and Paris. Her research spans the governance and political economy of AI and the societal impacts of AI adoption.
She leads an original research program on AI systems, markets, and governance. The program examines AI competitiveness and public investment in AI, combining large-scale quantitative methods — including LLM-based classification pipelines with systematic human validation — with governance and policy analysis. It also investigates how AI systems function, the validity and reliability challenges they raise, and how AI adoption impacts society.
She holds a PhD in political science from the University of Lausanne, where her dissertation examined the actors and mechanisms shaping early-stage AI policymaking across sectors and governance levels using ego-centric network analysis. She was a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley.
